DIETER MORSZECK
Dieter Morszeck, a businessman and aviation enthusiast, has propelled WACO Aircraft into a new era of growth and innovation since 2018. His legacy began in 1898 when his grandfather founded the Paul Morszeck luggage factory, later renamed RIMOWA by his father, Richard. This iconic luxury luggage brand, known for fine craftsmanship, deeply influenced Dieter's business approach.
Born in Germany, Dieter pursued an education in business and engineering, blending technical expertise with entrepreneurial acumen. He gained invaluable experience working alongside his father, guiding RIMOWA through significant transformations, including the shift from leather trunks to innovative aluminum and polycarbonate designs. This period honed his skills in product development, international marketing, and strategic leadership.
Despite his success in the luggage industry, Dieter's true passion was aviation. He spearheaded the ambitious project of rebuilding the Junkers F13, an aircraft originally produced between 1919 and the late 1930s. Together with a dedicated team, they successfully built three F13s, all still operational today. This accomplishment fueled his decision to purchase and expand WACO Aircraft Corporation, inspired by his earlier achievements.
At WACO, Dieter reintroduced the Junkers A50 Junior as a new-production classic legend. He remains committed to fostering the next generation of aviators, emphasizing the fundamentals of "stick and rudder" flying. The WACO Aircraft factory in Battle Creek, Michigan, with a team of about 100 employees, now hand-builds the A50 Junior and A50 ‘Heritage’ light-sport aircraft models along side the well-established WACO YMF-5 and Great Lakes Sport Biplane.
Dieter's interests extend to restoring classic cars and supporting educational and aviation history preservation. Alongside his wife, Lili, he engages in numerous philanthropic activities through the Dieter Morszeck Foundation, which focuses on cancer research, building children's hospitals, and saving lives in the Amazon region of Brazil.
Under Dieter's leadership, WACO Aircraft embodies his family's legacy of excellence and innovation. Combining traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology, WACO Aircraft is poised to become an industry leader, continuing the Morszeck tradition of quality, innovation, and passion.
